Edward W. Bernhart's Obituary
EDWARD W.BERNHART, 93, a resident of Leesburg since 1993, died on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Leesburg. Mr. Bernhart was born in Wheeling, WV on January 24, 1916 to the late Edward A. and Mary Gilboy Bernhart. He survived his sisters, Adelaide Comer and Jean Sargent. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII aboard ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Mr. Bernhart was considered an expert in the field of Jet engines. He retired in 1973 after 30 years with the Federal Government- Department of the Navy as aircraft production manager. Mr. Bernhart was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg.
Mr. Bernhart is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years: Mrs. Alma Carr Bernhart of Leesburg; one son: Edward John Bernhart, DDS and wife Jill Bernhart of Great Falls, VA; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, August 12th 2009 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, 231 N King Street, Leesburg, VA, 20176. Graveside services with military honors will be held privately on October 1, 2009 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
