Edwin Joseph Ward's Obituary
Edwin J. Ward of Ashburn, VA, (previously, Bay Shore, NY) passed away on January 21, 2016. He was born in Queens, NY on June 5, 1929 to Edwin J. Ward, Sr and Kathryn Robinson Ward. Ed attended Valley Stream High School and Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. Upon graduation from the Mount, he attended the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and proudly served four years as a Marine Officer. After leaving the USMC, Ed joined New York Telephone. He retired in 1988 after a distinguished career of 34 years. In retirement, Ed could be found on the tennis courts of Southward Ho.
Ed is survived by Arlene Frances Ward, his wife of 58years. They loved raising their family, sons James (Laura); John (Ellen); Brian (Ann); Thomas (Kathleen); and daughter, Anne Glynn (Michael). Ed and Arlene were happiest when spending time with their children and 16 grandchildren; and were thrilled about the pending arrival of their first great-grandchild. They also enjoyed spending time with their many nieces, nephews and friends in Bay Shore, NY.
Ed is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Anne, his parents and sister Kathryn Fagan (William).
Funeral arrangements include a viewing on January 29, 2016 from 6-8pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia. Funeral Mass at St Theresa Catholic Church, Ashburn, VA at 11am, January 30, 2016.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Anne’s Fans Foundation (94 Montross Ave, Rutherford, NJ 07070), a charitable organization set up in memory of Ed’s daughter Anne or the Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
