Eeda F Dennis' Obituary
Eeda Dennis, born Ida Frederika Sissener July 19,1925, Oslo, Norway, passed away January 1, 2026 in Leesburg, Virginia.
Eeda lived through the occupation of Norway during WWII. She met and married Alfred Pearce Dennis, a U.S. diplomat stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo.
Eeda and Alfred lived in many overseas posts, starting in Genoa, Italy, Reykjavik. Iceland, Naples, Italy, Yaoundé, Cameroun, and Mogadishu, Somalia. Eeda enjoyed the people and cultures she encountered in these various posts.
Having lived in an occupied country, Eeda greatly admired George C. Marshall, creator of the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Norway and many other European countries.
When Eeda first visited Leesburg, she met General Marshall, who was painting a fence at his home in Leesburg, Dodona Manor. Many years later Eeda convinced Molly Wynne, Marshall’s daughter-in-law, to sell the house to a group of Leesburg citizens to preserve the house as a museum and conference center.
Eeda was an active participant in many organizations including the Leesburg Garden Club, Oatlands, the Marshall House, and St. James Episcopal Church.
Eeda is survived by three sons, Alfred, Rene, and John; and their spouses; four grandsons, Carl, Pierce, Sam, and Stefan.
Eeda’s funeral will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, January 17, 2026 starting at 1:00 PM with a reception afterwards in the Parish Hall.
