Eileen G. Albrigo's Obituary
Eileen G. Albrigo (age 80) passed into eternal life on Thursday, November 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg, Virginia.
Eileen entered the world with her best friend and twin sister, Kathleen on March 27, 1944, in LaJunta, Colorado. She was the oldest daughter (by 15 minutes) of the late Glen and Florence Goddard.
As the daughter of an officer in the US Air Force, Eileen and her family lived all over the country, including New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Ohio, New York, and Virginia. Eileen attended Liverpool High School and then graduated from Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA.
Eileen and Kathleen both attended Mary Washington University, where she earned a BA in English and a minor in Elementary Education. There she and her sister made cherished friendships that were maintained throughout her life with regional gatherings and reunions. After graduating she taught as an elementary school teacher until she “retired” to raise her family.
Eileen loved a good story, whether in a book, audiobook, movie, television show, or on stage. She also was a gifted storyteller and would light up recounting a childhood memory, a funny grandchild escapade, or her latest detective novel plot. Watching her children and grandchildren on the field, on stage or in everyday life, she played the role of videographer and biggest fan.
Generosity and hospitality were at the heart of Eileen. Everyone always felt welcome in her home or wherever she was. Hosting pool parties was the highlight of her summers, as well as Gold Cup steeplechase parties each spring and fall. She loved spending time in her second home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, in addition to inviting others to stay there as well.
Eileen was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; spending time with family was the highlight of her life. She spent the last twenty-three years of her life helping care for her ever-expanding family as she acquired her 14 grandchildren, including weekly visits to each set of grandchildren.
Eileen is survived by her former spouse John and their three children, Todd, Kevin, and Elizabeth, and their spouses, Carrie, Molly, and Chris, as well as grandchildren Joseph, Michael, Thomas, Brayden, Therese, John, Teddy, Declan, Benjamin, Peter, Graeme, Juliette, Paul, and Margaret. She also leaves behind her identical twin sister, Kathy Moss, and brothers Bob and Tom, as well as many friends and acquaintances.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at
Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia.
A Funeral mass will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at St. Theresa Catholic Church located at 21371 St. Theresa Lane Ashburn, Virginia 20147.
Interment will be held privately in St. Peter Cemetery, Little Washington, VA.
