Elaine Reese Bennett's Obituary
Elaine Reese Bennett of Ashburn, Va., died at age 88 on March 24, 2014, following a long illness. Born on November 5, 1925, in rural Carbon, Texas, to Luther Thomas Reese and Georgia Ruth Wyatt Reese, Elaine had a wonderful childhood, growing up among a large extended family.
After graduation from Carbon High in 1944, Elaine worked as a clerk at Camp Barkley in Abilene and also Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio. She married Don Bennett, her high school sweetheart, on May 18, 1946, following his discharge from the military. Their marriage lasted for 50 years, until Don’s death on June 27, 1996. She was also predeceased by her parents, three infant sisters, her brother-in-law Dean Turner and her beloved sister, Darlene Turner of Lubbock, Texas.
Elaine is survived by her only child, Gina, her son-in-law, John McNeely of Broadlands and two grandchildren, Brooke McNeely Galligan (Larry) and Matt McNeely. She is also survived by her pride and joy, great-grandson Wyatt Galligan, nephew Kenneth Turner (Lawanna); niece Paula Hines (Vic) and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
For more than 20 years Elaine was employed as a dental assistant and dental office manager in Abilene and Wichita Falls, Texas. She was also a creative and gifted seamstress, and her skill as a cook and baker was legendary. Her family and friends always looked forward to the fabulous pies, cakes and other favorites she made. In 1997 Elaine left her beloved home state of Texas to move near her family in Virginia. She was a resident at Wingler House in Ashburn for eight years.
Services will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Va., on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 2 p.m.
