ELLEN JANE K FLYNN's Obituary
ELLEN JANE K FLYNN (1938 through 2026)
Jane passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026. She was born at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Matthew L. Kohlhoss and Cora Marshall Heflin Kohlhoss.
She was a lifelong member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Virginia.
Jane married Robert E. Flynn on June 20, 1959, at St. James Church. They shared a devoted marriage of 61 years until his passing on November 12, 2020.
She spent her childhood living in Montgomery Couty, Maryland, and Loudon County, Virginia, attending several schools before graduating from Loudon County High School in Leesburg. She later earned her Associate of Arts degree from Marjorie Webster Junior College.
Jane dedicated many years of her life to public service, working for 10 years with the D.C. Health Department and then for 22 years with the Metropolitan Police Department before retiring in 1989. During that time, she had the unique opportunity to cross paths with presidents and celebrities, stories she carried with her over the years.
She and her husband made their home in Lucketts, VA for many years before moving to Charles Town, WV, and eventually settled in Berryville, VA.
She enjoyed the simple comforts of home, especially reading and watching television. Westerns were a longtime favorite and something she continued to enjoy throughout her life.
She is survived by her brother Matthew, nieces Susan Anne and Sunney, and grandnieces Emma, Ella Rose, and JuJu; and by her sister-in-law Evelyn, nephew Clagett, and grandnephews Bryce and Trevor.
A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery, officiated by Rev Chad Martin of St. James Episcopal Church, on May 30, 2026, at 11:00AM. A small gathering of personal friends will be held prior to the service at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on May 30, 2026, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church.
