A couple weeks ago I was training my new puppy Roscoe, Eric was helping as he always would. We were at McKee's, working on pointing and we had a few birds in traps. Many of you know the drill - the key thing to know about it for those of you that don't is that timing is the most important part of the drill - it is essential. After the 2nd or 3rd bird I released the bird at exactly the right time and Eric just said "that was good timing, Holcher". I replied, "Thanks"! …. Then after a few seconds I added "after about 10 years it's about time!!". Then, with a huge smile on his face Eric said. "We'll that’s what I was thinking but didn't want to say it".

Eric was a very interesting, intense, mentoring, and funny man and I will miss him. Eric and my memories with him will live on inside my soul and I will cherish them. My heart goes out to Claire and Jessica and his family.

I have served with Eric in and out of uniform for nearly twenty years. In that time I have never encountered a more dedicated servant to our nation and our Army. No one has done more to ensure Army medical units are organized and prepared to treat the Soldiers who defend us than Eric. I will miss him as a friend and as a mentor. He was a true hero. Our prayers and condolences go to his family.

After retiring Eric continued to serve his nation in his capacity as an organizational integrator at Headquarters Department of the Army. As important as doing his job well, he helped many young officers and Department of the Army Civilians understand and do their job better. The friendly and caring way he did his job and the support he gave to other will be missed. His contribution to the Army's medical units and soldiers will serve as a testimony to this great man. Claire and the extended Abraham family are in our thought and prayers.

Eric was a great person and a great officer. Nadine and I offer our sympathy to Clarie and Eric's family. Eric and I served in the 25th Infantry in the early 80s in Charlie Med. A great commander and a better person. Rest in peace Eric.
