Esther A. Zazanis' Obituary
Esther Andrews Zazanis, 95, died peacefully where she resided, in the loving home of her caretaker Sheila Henry in Haymarket, VA, the morning of October 19, 2009.
Born in Denver, CO, April 19, 1914, she was the daughter, and the fourth of seven children, of the late John and Catina Andrews, who had immigrated to the United States from Greece.
Esther moved to Washington, D.C. after marrying the late Peter Michael Zazanis in 1935. They later moved to the Dominion Hills neighborhood in Arlington, VA where they raised their four children. She loved to read, sew, knit, work in her gardens and sing in the choir at Central United Methodist Church, where she was an active member.
In 1974 she and her husband Peter retired to a new home in Leesburg, VA. She became a member of Leesburg United Methodist Church, where she continued to sing in the choir, and she served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Leesburg for many years.
Esther is survived by her four children: Michael Peter Zazanis now residing in Fredericksburg, VA; Sophia Buckstrup residing in Linden, VA; Catherine Zazanis-DeSantis residing in Brockway, PA; and Tula Zazanis Reay of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by her brother, Father Constantine Andrews, Seattle WA; nine grand children; eight great-grand children; daughter-in-law Lu Zazanis and son-in-laws Kenneth Buckstrup, Paul DeSantis and Raymond Reay.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapels, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, October 23, 2009 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the same location.
