Eugene Barber's Obituary
Mr. Eugene Mulford Barber, 84, of Leesburg, VA, died on Monday, November 24, 2008 at home. Mr. Barber was born on October 3, 1924 in Florence, NJ. Son of the late George Barber and the late Janie Ashton Barber. A graduate of Borden Town High in NJ.
Eugene served his country in the US Navy during WWII.
He moved to Leesburg in 1947. Shortly after he met and married his wife Martha E. Barber on Christmas Day in 1953. Genie built his family home in the 1950.
He was employed by many local families including Betty Strawridges, and the Findals.
He also worked for the telephone company, VEPCO, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Carrier in Leesburg. He was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee, member of Usher Board and Church Janitor.
Genie was a charter member of the American Legion for 52 years and a member of the V.F.W. post 1177, serving in all offices from Trustee to Commander. Mr. Barber served on the Mt. Zion Community Cemetery Board, where on Veterans Day he placed flags on the graves of veterans.
He is survived by his wife Martha E. Barber of Leesburg, two step-children: Charles L. Brown and Marykate Morgan both of Manassas; plus a host of other nieces, cousins, family and friends.
A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2:00pm at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, North Street, Leesburg, VA.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
