Evelyn Winnie Moton's Obituary
EVELYN W. MOTON, 101, Born November 6, 1916 was a lifelong resident of Loudoun County, Virginia and was educated in the Loudoun County Public Schools. Evelyn was recently recognized by the First Mt. Olive Baptist Church for her 100 year centennial birthday. She was baptized at the church in 1950 and served as a deaconess and a member of the choir. In 2006, Pastor Harold Stinger appointed her as Mother of the Church, an honorary role. Evelyn’s favorite hobbies included knitting, sewing and cooking
She was the wife of the late James Moton, husband, late William Trammel, Father and Mary Cox, Mother, late Bernice Morris, sister, late Emily Young, sister, late Bernard Trammel, brother, late Thomas Trammel, brother, late Evelyn Josephine Thornton, daughter and late great children Bernadine Clark, Bernard Thornton, Wayne Thornton.
Evelyn is survived by her Grandchildren: Judy Brown, Steve Thornton and Gloria Neal-Thornton; her Nine great-grandchildren; Ten great great grandchildren; one Aunt: Lucinda Trammel, and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends.
The Moton family roots in Loudoun County are documented as far back as 1852, when Evelyn’s grandfather, Joseph Trammell, received his Freedom Papers from the Loudoun County government. Those papers are displayed today in the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture.
Services will be held at the First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 216 Loudoun Street in Leesburg with Rev. Harold S. Stinger officiating. Viewing will be held on Saturday, March 3nd. 2018 at 10 am, Services will follow at 11am. Interment will be on Monday, March 5th.2018 at the Culpeper National Cemetery at 2pm.
