Evelyn Carrie Louise Miller's Obituary
Evelyn Carrie Miller of Leesburg, Virginia, formerly of Ft. Washington, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at home attended by family. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong Methodist who was active in church and served on the staff of the United Methodist Greater New Jersey Conference. She was born to Thomas Eldred and Rosella Jane Parson of Buena Vista Bay, Newfoundland and was later naturalized as a US Citizen. When an infant her family moved to Cambridge, MA where she finished high school and later attended business school at Brown University. Evelyn met and married Dewayne, a young Navy Lt. attending The Graduate Business School at Harvard University, after returning from duty in the Pacific during WWII. Together they experienced living in Germany, France and several of the United States.
Evelyn led a full and well respected life as a Naval Officer’s wife, an excellent mother, a wonderful grandmother and great friend to many. She moved to Leesburg, Virginia in 2002 with her husband Dewayne who preceded her in death in 2007. She was active in several church and civic organizations such as Kathryn Eye Circle at Leesburg United Methodist Church, Colony Club of Ambler, PA, Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts and the UMYF. Mrs. Miller is the beloved mother of sons Donald, Lawrence and his wife Deborah, Richard and his wife Joy, and her daughter Petra Hoffman. She has six grandchildren who love her dearly, Christopher, Nicole, Alexandra, Samantha, Sean and Rebecca. She is also survived by her sister Jane Hawk of New York City.
Funeral Services will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, VA November 20, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. and interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
