Francis Joseph Sweeney “Pop-Pop”, 82, Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather to many.
Francis J. Sweeney, son to Francis and Helen Sweeney, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014.
He was born in 1932, raised in Philadelphia, PA. He served in the United States Army and after his return, soon met his beloved wife of 49 years, Josephine A. Sweeney. They married in 1965, then soon after moved to Northern Virginia, were they continued to grow their family, having three wonderful children.
Francis is known for his “love of the fighting Irish”, watching golf and tennis, also supporting his beloved Patriots.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine, children Janice and Glenn Dawson, Diane and David Wood, Frank and Shirley Sweeney and Grandkids; Casey, Blaire, Dylan, Bradley, Troy, Brett, Sky and Rylee. Also, sisters Helen Hecker and Marie Brodheim.
Pop-Pop’s last days were filed with love, peace and tranquility. He was surrounded by all his loved ones.
A viewing was held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 6:00PM – 9:00PM at Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Cr. SE Leesburg, VA 20175, followed by a Memorial Mass on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00AM at Christ the Redeemer Parish, 46833 Harry Byrd Hwy, Sterling, VA 20164. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
