Franklin Nathaniel Evans Jr
Frank, 79 Years old from Gainesville, Va. passed away on Monday October 7, 2024, at The University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Frank was born on Wednesday November 1, 1944, in Arlington County, Va. He was the youngest son of late Franklin N Evans, and Grace Jones Mackley.
Frank joined the Naval Air Reserves in 1965 as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Anti-Submarine Attack Squadron VS-661's Naval Reserve Training Unit operating out of Andrews Air Force Base. He spent a lot of summers at Guantanamo Bay - and, carried "Undated Orders" during most of the Vietnam War.
Frank started working for Bell Atlantic as a telephone installer/repairman in the early 60’s. When climbing poles became too much, he transferred to Walter Reed Hospital. He had many stories about the people he saw while installing and repairing their phones. He worked at Walter Reed for 4 years and retired at the age of 48 in 1992.
Frank liked to help others whenever he could and was very generous with donations to many different charities.
He leaves behind his family to cherish his memory
His older brother William Evans, and his wife Edith.
Nephew - Timothy Evans, his wife Michelle & their son Kyle.
Niece - Suzanne Hussey, her husband Danny & their 3 sons Brandon, Jacob & Ryan.
Frank also leaves behind his cockatiel, Jake. He and his feathered companion had been together every day for the last 25 years. Jake has since been adopted by a family with children that love him as much as Frank did.
There will be a Celebration of Franks Life on November 3rd, 2024, between 12pm – 4pm at Westminster Canterbury in Winchester Va.
Frank will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, in Arlington Va.
