Frederick Robert Barnet's Obituary
Fredrick Robert Barnet, 95 of Hamilton, Virginia passed on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Adler Center For Caring Inpatient Center in Aldie, Virginia.
Born May 27, 1919 in Tacoma, Washington, he was the son of the late Frederick Barfknecht and the late Mildred Buchhalter Barfknecht.
Mr. Barnet's career with the Navy started in 1942 when, as a new Officer. He was assigned to help establish the "Navy Plastics Laboratory" in Silver Spring, MD. After the War, he transferred to the Navy Reserves. And he moved to the Naval Ordnance Laboratory (later White Oak Laboratory), in White Oak, MD. As a civilian, Mr. Barnet was Chief of the Non-metallics Materials Division at the Laboratory for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Barnet leaves his family to cherish his memory including his wife of nearly 72 years, Ruth Gourley Barnet of Hamilton, VA, daughters, Elna B. (John E.) Hunter of Lovettsville, VA, and Lori A. Barnet (William E. Duncan) of Rockville, MD, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Interment services with military honors were at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Quantico National Cemetery located at 18424 Joplin Road Triangle, Virginia 22172.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Barnet’s memory to a charity of the sender’s choice.
