(Age 93)
Of Ashburn, VA passed away Monday April 30, 2018. Beloved husband of Mary C. Marsh; loving father of Michael A. Marsh (Kristine) and Michelle Marsh Higgins (Robert); grandfather of Michael, Brett and Ryan; and uncle of John Marsh. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Frederick was a veteran of World War II in which he participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 and participated in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Belgian Fourragere for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge, and he received the Legion of Honor Medal from the Republic of France in 2011. Frederick dedicated much of his life to public service. In addition to military service, he was a member of the Rhode Island State Police and he served as Deputy Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the State of Rhode Island. After retiring, Frederick settled in Ashburn, VA with his wife to be near their children and grandchildren. Frederick will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in recognition of the great personal sacrifices he made in service to his country.
