Dr. G.V.V. Rao (Gadepalli Venkata Vishweswar Rao), 84, of Ashburn, Virginia, joined with the Divine on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Born on November 27, 1940, in Gunupur, Odisha, India, he was the son of the late Venkateswarlu Read Obituary
Dr. G.V.V. Rao was a dear family friend for over seven decades and a guiding light throughout his long, impactful life. His devotion to the principles of the Ramakrishna Mission shaped his noble service as a family member, professor, consultant, and civic leader. We will deeply miss his wisdom and warmth, but his legacy of faith and service will live on for generations. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Dr. Rao was my housemate when we were students at Montana State University. He had a very charming personality. He could discuss and debate about any subjects like politics, Civil Engineering, religion etc. He was an expert cook and I learned cooking from him. My wife Sandhya and I visited them when they were living in Iowa. I have attached a photo of Dr. Rao and Ms. Rao we took when we visited them in Iowa. After that we only met via Zoom calls. We were planning to make a trip to see Dr. Rao in first week of September but for some reasons we could make the trip. I feel very bad that I could not meet him.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our neighbor Rao. Although we
met late in our lives, we became more than just neighbors. He and Sue were
very loving, caring and extremely helpful to us. He was a very spiritual man
and he influenced everyone he came in contact with. Our lives are greatly
diminished without his presence. Our memories of Rao will be cherished.
He has left a void in our hearts and in our lives.
We are sure the Good Lord has accepted him into his Heavenly Kingdom.

I will always remember Rao Uncle from my time in Balavikas. He was a truly kind and caring soul to everyone around him and always knew how to make us laugh. Through Balavikas and the annual Youth Day Competitions he helped establish, I learned so much about our traditions and poojas from him. I am immensely grateful for his teachings, and it is wonderful to see the Balavikas legacy he built continue to thrive and teach future generations.
May his soul attain Sadgati. My deepest condolences to Auntie and the rest of his family.
Dr. Rao ji was a fellow graduate student as I first came to Montana State University in 1972 from India. He was a kind, compassionate and spiritual senior member of the small Indian graduate students group. He counseled fellow scholars and served the Bozeman community. He remained a cherished member of the “Bozeman Buddies” group until the very end. We often had zoom meetings and a couple of in-person get togethers with Dr. and Mrs. Rao serving as gracious hosts. Aruna and I had the good fortune of visiting them in Iowa, Illinois, Washington area and even in Philippines. He was a saintly elder looking out for our welfare and offering learned advice. He will be gravely missed and we are blessed to have him share his wisdom with us. May God Almighty grant eternal peace to the noble soul.
We fondly remember the first time our family met the amazing balavikas community at the Ganesha puja in 1995 @ Fairfax county government center. For several years since then our children were guided and mentored by the entire Gadepalli family.
