Gail Dinneen Mackey's Obituary
Gail Elizabeth Dinneen Mackey, 67, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at her Wingler House residence.
Born on August 14, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Dinneen and Teresa E. Dinneen (nee Anton). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Leo Mackey III.
Gail graduated from Gwynedd Mercy High School, received her Nursing degree from Gwynedd Mercy College and BS in Education from Temple University, all in the Philadelphia, PA area. Throughout the years, she worked as a Nurse in hospitals, NIH, doctors' offices, home care and also stayed home to raise her sons while they were young. Her husband’s time in the Army and Department of State led the family to live overseas for six years in Athens, Greece, New Dehli, India and Vienna, Austria. She was a parishioner for many years at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Chantilly, VA, and most recently, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ashburn, VA. Gail enjoyed spending her spare time traveling and helping others, most recently volunteering at Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her sons, Brian P. Mackey and his fiancee, Caitlin Colligan, and Christopher J. Mackey and his wife, Jaclyn Seemann; grandchildren, Carson, Vaughn and Maeve; as well as her brothers, Joseph P.(Jean) Dinneen and Mark C.(Susan) Dinneen.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
