Gene Raymond Isaman's Obituary
Gene Raymond Isaman, 89, passed away on November 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 23, 1936, in Knoxville, Pennsylvania, to the late Claude and Lucille Isaman, and was also predeceased by his beloved sister, Mary Joanne Prevost.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Coombs) Isaman, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. To Gene, Joanne was the guiding light of their family—his true partner in all things and the source of lasting warmth in their home. Together they raised four children: Theresa Seabaugh (Brad), Robert Isaman (Linda), Kathleen Wootten (Mark), and Jennifer Schwartz (Barry).
To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was simply “Papa”. He was blessed with ten grandchildren—Rachel Roberts (Evan) and two great-grandchildren, Arthur and Wyatt; Christian Seabaugh (Elayna); Danielle Burgess (Ryan); Patrick Seabaugh (Kayla); Tyler Isaman; Alex Seabaugh (Amanda); Matthew Wootten; Geena Schwartz; Samantha Wootten; and Ethan Schwartz—each of whom brought him endless joy.
Gene learned the value of hard work early, beginning his first job at age twelve. He excelled in school activities playing both JV and varsity basketball and baseball, and participating in the marching band. Upon high school graduation, Gene went on to earn an associate’s degree in Electrical Technology from State University of New York Agricultural and Technical Institute in Alfred, NY.
He joined IBM in 1956, beginning a 32-year career that took him to many locations in the U.S. and Europe. He worked in roles ranging from maintaining early large-scale computers, to instruction, customer engineering, marketing support, and satellite systems development. During his tenure, he received an award as one of IBM’s top ten systems engineers. After retiring from IBM, he managed major government projects at Lockheed Martin and later consulted independently.
After marrying Joanne in July 1958, he was soon drafted into the US Army. He served two years, including on the Korean DMZ with the 7th Infantry Division, a service he was deeply proud of.
Nothing brought Gene greater happiness than time with family and his beloved walks engaging with nature. He had many hobbies including woodworking, motorcycle riding, attending car races with family members and car shows with his son, attending his grandchildren’s games and events, and joining in any activity that brought his family together.
Friends often described Gene as a true gentleman: kind, attentive, and sincere. His quiet presence made others feel comfortable and valued, and he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
A service will take place at Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church in Ashburn, VA on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at Quantico at a later date.
It is the family’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations. Among Gene’s favorite charities were Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Loudoun Hunger Relief, and Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church (Ashburn).
