Genevieve Lenora Henson's Obituary
Genevieve Lenora Henson, affectionally known as “Ginny” departed this life on
Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, Virginia.
She was born on October 12, 1934 to Herschell S. Whitlock and Mary Ellen Whitlock-Salley (nee Coleman) in Washington, DC.
She was the youngest of ten children and attended the District of Columbia Public Schools.
She married Matthew William Henson known to many as "Sunny" on May 6, 1953 and from that union 9 children were born.
The majority of her life, she lived in Washington DC until relocating to Northern Virginia in 1989.
She accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized in 1989. She became a member of the Tried Stone Church of Greater Love in Sterling, Virginia under the leadership of Bishop Randolph S. Witcher.
She enjoyed playing softball, playing cards, hand dancing, and jumping double-dutch. She was a homemaker and a babysitter for many of the neighborhood children.
She worked as an Associate at the White Elephant Consignment Shops, located in Middleburg, Virginia, Warrenton, Virginia and Leesburg, Virginia until retirement.
She leaves to carry on her memories, three daughters Natalie L. Snowden, Bethesda, Md; Lenora Williams, Woodbury, NJ and Sheila A. Henson, Philadelphia, PA; four sons Michael P. Henson (Wanda), Washington, DC; Ollie Henson, Winchester, VA; Antonio Henson (Lisa), Upper Marlboro, MD and Clarence J.
Calloway, Raleigh, NC; 26 grand children, Kia "her favorite girl", Darnell, Katisha, Tyka, Takiyah, Taja, Myisha, Ashley, Lil Tony, Lindsey, Savannah, India, Mykell, Matthew, Dwayne, Darien, Robbyn , Michael ll, Mattrice, Lil Greg, Sheila, Deanndra,
Louis, Lydell, Whitney, and Marcus. A host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded her in death, her parents Herschell S. Whitlock and Mary Ellen Whitlock Salley; four sisters Doris Randall, Flossie Robinson, Virginia (Olivia) Blackmon and Mary King; four brothers Edgar Whitlock, Herschell Whitlock, Cornelious Whitlock and Phillip Whitlock; three children Gregory Henson, Matthew Henson and Sabrena Henson
