George Vance Mitchell's Obituary
George Vance Mitchell, 90, of Purcellville, VA, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Vallejo, CA to the late Burton Mitchell and Nellie Francis Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Dianne Renfroe and Gloria Ball.
He was a WWII veteran serving as a Marine in the Pacific Theatre. He was married to the former Helen Hill. He was a longtime resident of Santa Cruz, CA and retired from the California Highway Patrol. He resided in Clovis, CA, then resettled to Purcellville, VA, in 2001.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Mitchell of Purcellville, VA and Elaine Wade of Clovis, CA; four grandchildren: Nissa Parsons, Leif Sundberg, Erin Heryford, and Matt Wade; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Hillsboro, VA Cemetery with Rev. C. Grant officiating. The family will receive friends at his daughter, Carolyn’s home following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
