George Silas Goodale's Obituary
George Silas Goodale, LTC, USA-Retired passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010 in Potomac Falls, Virginia at home in the Johnson Center at Falcon’s Landing. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan. LTC Goodale was born in Denver, Colorado to Edwin S. and Ellen Bernice Goodale. He moved with his parents throughout the Midwest before returning to Denver where he graduated from high school in 1948. He was a member of ROTC and several bands throughout high school. He was recognized as an expert musician, including bagpiper and an award winning marksman.
Following high school LTC Goodale earned a bachelor’s degree in geology at the University of Utah. While at the university he met and married Joan Evelyn Marine Goodale. He began his career in the U.S. Army upon his graduation. LTC Goodale served throughout the United States and Europe. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was extremely proud of his military service and his legacy to the U.S. Army. Each of his 3 children also served as officers in the U.S. Army. After his retirement he moved to Sterling, Virginia and became one of the first residents of Falcons Landing. LTC Goodale enjoyed traveling and was an avid camper. He retained membership in numerous organizations including the Sojourners and Masons.
LTC Goodale is survived by his 3 children Edwin S. Goodale, Eve Lynn Layman, and Sandra E. Parks, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn B. Goodale, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great granddaughters. A memorial reception will be held at Falcons Landing in Sterling on November 1, 2010 at 3 pm. A private standard graveside honors ceremony be held at Arlington Cemetery on November 2.
