Gerald L. Butts' Obituary
Gerald L. (Jerry) Butts, age 91, born of Ruth and Oscar Butts November 21, 1933, in Hagerstown, Md., passed on October 26, 2025, surrounded by his family in Paeonian Springs, Va. He was for 41 years the husband of the late Betty Jean Sapp of Hagerstown, Md. He was a member of the Sterling, Va. United Methodist Church. Graduate of Hagerstown High School class of 1951, member of the high school marching band, Hagerstown Municipal and Civic Bands and professionally with the Club Royal Orchestra. He attended Hagerstown Junior College, Shepherdstown State Teachers College, Shepherdstown, W. Va., American University Washington, D. C., University of Va. Charlottesville, Va., and the Department of Agriculture Graduate School, Washington, D. C. Employed by Pangborn and Fairchild Aircraft Corporations of Hagerstown, Md., the U. S. Post Office Department, Army Corp of Engineers Savanna District, U. S. Customs Service, U. S Immigration and Naturalization Service, U. S. Treasury Department & U. S. Department of State in Washington, D. C. He served a total of 43-years with the U. S. Government and served for three years during the Korean conflict with the Army Security Agency. He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann (Harlow/Preski), and daughter Jerri Cristina Currier and grandson Jackson Cole Cooper of Frisco, Texas.
A burial will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Virginia on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Children's Hospital of Washington, D. C.
