GERALD DEE RHODES's Obituary
Gerald Dee Rhodes, 93, of Leesburg, VA passed away on August 25, 2022, at Heritage Hall Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.
Born on May 3, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie Rhodes and Eva Morris Rhodes; sisters, Evelyn Rhodes and Rosemary Thompson; and brothers, Roland and Gene Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Genevieve Rhodes. They were married on June 11, 1955, in Black Hawk County, Iowa. Mr. Rhodes is also survived by his children, Susan (Bruce) Friedman, Jeane (James) Cassidy, Mary (Aaron) Greso, Kathy (Gerald) Calhoun, Mark (Maura) Rhodes, and Diane (Gregory) Rhodes-Michaely; grandchildren, Samuel (Annemarie), Jessica, and Amy Friedman, Robbie (Kristin) Cassidy, Christine (Anthony) Cassidy-Ita, and Joe Cassidy, Maria Greso, Elizabeth, George, Richard, and Timothy Calhoun, Jacob, and Brian Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Henry, Theodore, and Finneas Cassidy, and Clara Friedman; and sisters-in-law, Janet and Winona Rhodes.
Gerald was a devoted husband and father and received great joy whenever he was visited by any of his thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His hobbies included wood working and cameras. His wood working provided many memorable gifts and keepsakes for his children and grandchildren.
Gerald served in the U.S. Airforce as a Medical Technician before enrolling at the University of Kansas, which he graduated from in 1955 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. From Texas to Oklahoma (with Mobil Oil), to Wyoming and Virginia (with the Department of the Interior), wherever his job took him, Gerald was always an active member in his church. His church services included: serving on various committees and parish councils, Eucharistic minister to the homebound, singing in the choir and teaching religious education classes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 6-8PM at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 10AM at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Drive NE, Leesburg, VA. Committal Service to immediately follow at the church cemetery.
