Gerald "Jerry" Allen Smith's Obituary
Surrounded by loved ones, Gerald (Jerry) Allen Smith went home to be with the Lord on
February 18, 2025.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Francis Smith of Frame/Elkview, WV,
sister Kay Carnes of Florence, SC and brother Bill Smith of Parkersburg, WV.
Jerry is survived by his loving partner Patricia Exstrom of Leesburg, VA, his daughters
Maureen Mullins (Scott) of Sumerduck, VA and Melinda Nauta (Dave) of Maysville, WV,
brother Michael E. Smith (Judy) of Hamilton, VA, sister Pat Sutphin (Gordon) of Elkview, WV,
sister Susan Kinder (Frank) of Eleanor, WV; and sister Darlene Peters of Florence, SC,
grandchildren Ella Mullins, Brian Thacker (fiancé Claire), Beth Thacker (fiancé Chaz), Shaelin
Abernathy (spouse Ethan), and Tiffanie Labrie (spouse Kimmie). He is also survived by
dozens of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Jerry was born in Kanawha County, WV in 1944 and grew up in Frame, WV. After graduating
High School, he moved to Northern Virginia in 1962 where he worked and eventually retired
from the US Postal Service.
Jerry loved country line, ball room and disco dancing, coaching sports league teams for his
children and nieces and nephews, reading crime fiction, horse racing, cheering on the
Washington Commanders (Redskins), and spending lots of time with his love Patricia
volunteering at Carver Senior Center in Purcellville, VA, traveling, laying in the sun, spending
time at the beach, country line dancing, and visiting friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Loudoun Funeral
Chapel on 158 Catoctin Circle, S.E. Leesburg, VA, 20175.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carver Senior Center via check or credit card
located on 200 E Willie Palmer Way, Purcellville, VA 20132, 571-258-3400. Indicate over the
phone or on the check that the donation is made in memory of Jerry Smith.
