Gerald Byron Shamla's Obituary
Gerald Byron Shamla, 74, of Leesburg, Virginia, formerly of Alexandria, VA died at home on Tuesday, September 20th 2011 with his family by his side. Mr. Shamla was born October 8th 1936 in Starbuck, Minnesota to the late Richard J. Shamla and Olga Brosvig Shamla. His first wife and mother of his children, Alva Hayes Shamla and two sons Richard and Michael Shamla also predeceased him. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Navy prior to attending North Dakota State University. He was a civilian contractor before pursuing a career with the Department of Defense. Mr. Shamla was involved with NATO Program before his final assignment and retiring in 1994 as Director at the Counter-Drug Integration Center (DISA).
Mr. Shamla is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years: Noreene Fischer Shamla of Leesburg; two daughters: Peggy Douglas (Jeff) of Centreville, VA, Shari Lane (Jon) of Tulsa, OK; a sister: Deb Maschoff (John) Minneapolis, MN; four grandchildren: Brian, Sean, Elise, Elaine and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 22nd 2011 from 6-9pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg. A Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, September 23rd St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, 231 N. King Street in Leesburg. Interment will be private.
