Hazel Constance Fountos' Obituary
Services will be held on February 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Boyds Presbyterian Church in Boyds, Maryland, for Hazel Constance Fountos, who passed away at the age of 67 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, on January 27, 2025.
Mrs. Fountos was born on January 17, 1958 in La Plata, Maryland, to Earl Richard Jordan, a building engineer, and Margaret Constance (Young) Jordan, a homemaker. She was baptized and became a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1991. She was the third of four children. Her older brothers, Raymond R. Jordan, Sr., of Frederick, Maryland and Angus H. Jordan, Sr., of Monrovia, Maryland, and a younger sister, Gretchen I. Wall of Augusta, West Virginia, survive her.
Mrs. Fountos attended Germantown Elementary School and Gaithersburg Junior High School and then graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1975. While she was in 6th grade at Gaithersburg Elementary, she won a contest to prepare the town of Boyd’s slogan: Boyds “Home in the Country.” Today, the slogan is found at the three main entrances into Boyds. She obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Management/Marketing from Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland, in 1983 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, in 1986.
On August 11, 2012, Mrs. Fountos married Barrett Nicholas Fountos at St. Luke Parish in McLean, Virginia. Mr. Fountos is an occupational and environmental cancer epidemiologist and retired in 2020 from the U.S. Department of Energy. Mrs. Fountos worked for several firms as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy. She founded and operated her own management consulting firm, Program Analytics, a Delaware Corporation, until her retirement in 2024.
In high school, Mrs. Fountos and her brothers were active members in the youth group at Boyds Presbyterian Church. Since high school, Mrs. Fountos has loved photography. In her younger years, she enjoyed hiking and playing co-ed softball and volleyball. Mrs. Fountos was an avid gardener and known for growing her enormous dahlias and assorted zinnias. She loved giving cuttings to her family members and friends. She served on the Building and Grounds Committee at the Clarksburg Homeowners Association in Clarksburg, Maryland, and on the Landscaping and Grounds Committee at the Ocean View Beach Club in Ocean View, Delaware. Both she and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time at the Delaware beaches.
Mrs. Fountos is survived by husband, Barrett Fountos, of Ashburn, Virginia, her daughter, Jessica (Slemmons) Connell and her husband James Connell, grandson Mason Connell and granddaughter Ava Mae Connell of Key West, Florida, her son, USN Chief Petty Officer Kyle Slemmons and his wife Christine (Maiatico) Slemmons, and granddaughters Leah Slemmons and April Slemmons of Honolulu, Hawaii. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, most of whom reside in northern Montgomery and Frederick Counties. Mrs. Fountos will be deeply missed.
