HAZELLE D. BROWNLEE's Obituary
REVEREND HAZELLE BROWNLEE, of Ashburn, Virginia passed to her heavenly home on Monday, January 30, 2023.
Born Monday, December 28, 1936; in Philadelphia, PA., the daughter of Melton Vaughn and Mabel Eloise Brownlee. Her mother passed away when Hazelle and her siblings were young children, and they were raised by their grandparents, Bishop G.G. Gary and Carrie “Molly” Gary.
Hazel deeply loved her four sisters Velma “Bee Bee,” Constance “Connie,” and Phyllis who preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved sister Pastor Blanche “Dottie” Anderson, and her much loved nieces and nephews. Hazelle’s “sisters of the heart” Dr. Carol A. Currier, Alice Ford, Johnanna Fenton, Jeanette Mayo and Ruth Sims will also cherish their lifetime of memories with her.
Hazelle, was the first in her family to receive her BA from Samford University in Homewood, Alabama, and attended ORU Law School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the Co-Founder of Sun of Righteousness Ministries and traveled as an Evangelist and Gospel singer throughout the U.S. and the world ministering the Word of the Lord. With her anointing and resounding musical voice she was often compared to Aretha Franklin, and highly esteemed by her peers. Hazelle loved Israel and the Jewish people. As a woman of prayer, she traveled to bless the nation of Israel many times. She was a member of Living Word Church of Jesus Christ in Leesburg, VA. Hazelle was thankful for the love of her church family, and for the dedicated care given by Sandra Oppong in the last six months of her life.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, from 10 to 11 am, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023 at the funeral home, with the Bishop Kevin Treadwell officiating.
Graveside Services and Interment will be at 1 pm on Thursday, in Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
