Helen Gayheart Slone's Obituary
SLONE, Helen Gayheart passed away January 22, 2014 at the age of 88. She is preceded in death by her husband, Demra Slone and parents, Tandy and Maudie (Ratliff Short) Gayheart, as well as brothers Chester and Lester (Patricia) Gayheart and granddaughter Christine Shedlock.
She is survived by her sister Geneva (William) Roth of San Diego, VA; brother, Harold (Ruth) Gayheart of Fairborn, OH; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Chester) Gayheart; children, Larry (Linda) Slone, Leesburg, VA, Deborah (Andrew) Kolaitis, Purcellville, VA, Vickie (Martin Queeney) Slone, Dayton, OH, Donna (James) Shedlock, McLean, VA, Gilda (Jonathan) Carter, Hamilton, VA, and Guy (Christy) Slone, Leesburg, VA; grandchildren, Kevin (Alejandra) Slone, Scott (Ashley) Slone, Michael and Jason Kolatis, Liam, Sean (Ashlie), Eamon, Kaelin and Maura Queeney, Katie and Karen Shedlock, Kelsey Carter and Austin and Lexy Slone; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Tyler Slone; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Upper Ball Mountain, Knott County, KY. She attended the Hindman Settlement School. She moved to Dayton, Ohio and worked for the Department of Defense and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before moving to Arlington, VA with her husband and children. Helen resided in Arlington for 46 years. She worked for the Dept. of Defense prior to working as a property manager (16 years) until she retired at 72. She moved to Leesburg in 2003, where she resided until her passing.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Leesburg Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
