Helen Wultich's Obituary
Helen Wultich passed away on July 31, 2024, she is survived by her 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923 to two strong, Irish Catholic immigrants, Helen learned at an early age to put faith first. She lost her mom at the age of 4, who died while trying to deliver twins. Helen prayed to Mary, Mother of God, asking her to step in and be her mother.
After working various jobs throughout her high school years, she went to work for the FBI. She initially worked in the NY office before moving to the Washington Field Office to work in communications dispatch. It was at the Washington Field Office where she met her husband, Nick. Helen and Nick married in 1957 and raised 3 children in Alexandria.
When Helen was pregnant with her first child, she was filled with fear, considering what had happened to her own mother. She continued to pray to Mary for support and guidance. After giving birth to her healthy baby girl, she chose to pay tribute to Mary by selecting a first and middle name inspired by her. Her other daughter was also named in honor of Mary.
Helen had a love of travel, gardening, laughter and spending time with family. She will be remembered as our little Betty White - always with the kindest disposition and sweetest nature that was recognized by everyone who met her. She was a proud and stylish Brooklynite who made friends with everyone she encountered. A surrogate mom to many, with a heart the size of Ireland, when asked what advice she had on life, her response was: “Always be kind to everyone and you will reap the rewards.”
Helen lived life with perseverance and intention - constantly reiterating how grateful she was for so many years on this earth. And we, sweet angel, are eternally grateful to have you as our mom. Your love and memory will live on forever in our hearts. We pray that we share that same boundless love and kindness with everyone, as you always did.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
