Helene Psaris' Obituary
HELENE PSARIS, 79, a resident of Fort Lee, NJ for 40 years before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and moving to Leesburg to be closer to her family during 2002, died on Tuesday February 26, 2008 at Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg. Mrs. Psaris was born July 29, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Athene and Peter Varvisotis. She graduated from Patterson State Teachers College where she was captain of the Fencing Club and in the Civil Air Patrol. Mrs. Psaris was a schoolteacher and an executive assistant later in her working career. Helene’s tenderness was most visible through her great love of animals.
Mrs. Psaris considered herself a teacher, first and foremost, as well as a serious student of life. She was a feminist at heart, for which her daughters will be eternally grateful.
Mrs. Psaris is survived by her husband of 54 years, Mr. John Psaris of Leesburg, VA; two daughters: Patti Psaris and husband Mike Cowell of Waterford, VA, Georgette Psaris of Oakland, California.
Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Cr. Leesburg, VA on Thursday February 28, 2008 from 7-9pm. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 8pm during the visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Friday February 29, 2008 at Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W. Seventh Street, Frederick, MD with Father Anastasios Kousoulas officiating. Interment will follow in Leesburg Union Cemetery.
