Ian A. Iverson's Obituary
Ian was born December 7, 1972, to Dennis and Marianne Iverson. Ian was raised in Oakland, Sunnyvale, and Danville, California. As a child, Ian had a spirit and energy level that caused terror in every babysitter who dared to take on the job. Ian loved soccer, skiing, dirt biking, and most any sport he could challenge himself with. Ian could be found on a ski slope with his ski poles out to his sides, flying straight down the hill with no fear.
Ian graduated from San Ramon Valley High School and went on to study Physics at University of California, Santa Cruz. Ian met the love of his life, Deanne, at Santa Cruz. The story goes that Ian saw Deanne for the first time and said to his friend, “I’m going to marry that blondie right there.” Ian and Deanne got married in January 2001, celebrating with an epic party not soon forgotten by family and friends.
Ian supported everyone in his life with enthusiasm. Ian’s sister Erica played professional soccer with the WUSA, and Ian made his presence known at a game by yelling, “Uncage the Iverson!”
Ian’s first big job after college was with Lockheed Martin. Ian and his brother Jason later reunited at Space Systems/Loral, working as satellite engineers together. Ian and Deanne wanted to buy a home with land, so Ian took a job with Orbital Sciences, and they made their move to Purcellville, VA. Ian finally had the lawn for a riding mower and the space for his own disc golf course. Ian took part in a program through Orbital to earn a Graduate Certificate/Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering from George Washington University (GWU) and was awarded this degree in September 2008.
Ian and Deanne welcomed Ayden Reed in May 2008, and Alyssa Grace in May 2010. Ian had a fierce love for his family. He was extremely proud of Ayden and Aly. He sought new adventures for them to experience together. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing meals with his family. Ian was passionate about disc golf, camping, traveling in his RV, and took great care with home improvement projects. Ian had been a ranked pro disc golfer, and he delighted in sharing the sport with others.
Ian was loyal, brilliant, adventurous, and unpredictable in his sense of humor. Ian was kind and generous.
Ian was preceded in death by his mother Marianne Brunst Iverson, Uncle John Iverson, mother-in-law Karen Hill, and father-in-law Kenneth Hill. Ian is survived by his wife Deanne, children Ayden and Aly, parents Pat and Dennis Iverson, brother Jason (Jennifer), sister Erica (Paul), sister Martha, sister Kathryn (Lloyd), Uncle George (Mary), brother-in-law Bryan (Jenny), brother-in-law Michael (Tami), and brother-in-law Shawn (Michelle). He was an awesome uncle to Lacey, Finlay, Emma, Jay, Kira, Xavier, Gabriel, Elijah, Stella, Calvin, Juliette, Jacob, Matthew, Patrick, Ashlynne, and Aaron. He was fortunate to have many wonderful cousins, uncles, and aunts.
Ian will be in our hearts every day. Remember Ian when you are grilling, playing disc or ball golf, camping, and spending time with those you love.
