Jack Vindex Stewart's Obituary
Jack Vindex Stewart, 93, of Leesburg VA, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2019. He was the son of the late Lillian and Pauline Stewart, Born January 16, 1926, in Sylvania GA.
Jack was a WWII Veteran and served in the United States Navy as a combat photographer on the CV-9 USS Essex Carrier in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Upon leaving the Navy in 1946, Jack spent 5 years as the manager of the Frankie Carl Band. He often shared wonderful memories of those years touring almost every state and meeting many celebrities of that time, including Mickey Rooney and Doris Day.
Jack came home to settle in Washington D.C. and then in Fairfax, VA where he met his wife of 37 years, Gwyneth Rachel (Rae) Stewart who passed away in July of 2000.
He leaves his family to cherish their happiest memories of him, including his daughter Gwyneth P. Fletcher and son-in-law, Butch Fletcher; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. They are Ralph G. Fletcher of Leesburg VA, Heather Campbell and her children Ashleigh and Ella Wager of Arlington VA, Erin Hornbeck and her husband Brian Hornbeck and their children Ben, Will and Bronwyn of Ashburn VA, Holly Jackson and her husband Mike Jackson and their children Katie and Andrew of Tampa Fl and Ryan Campbell and his wife Lucy Campbell and their children James, Lydia, Jack and George of Leesburg Va.
Graveside services will be held privately by the family in Leesburg Union Cemetery, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, The Purple Heart Foundation or Capital Caring Hospice.
