Jacobi Henry's Obituary
Thomas Henry Jacobi, 79, of Leesburg, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Loudoun Hospital from complications related to pancreatic cancer.
Born on Aug. 29, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of the late Henry A. & Agnes (Heithaus) Jacobi.
He studied physics at St. Louis University (SLU) and UCLA, where he received his PhD. During his career he taught engineering and physics at SLU where he was assistant professor and worked as a research associate in computer system development at Washington University, and was active in the field of medical electronics. He was co-holder of a patent for a digital sphygmomanometer.
Mr. Jacobi worked on U.S. Navy Anti-submarine Warfare (ASW) programs. While at General Electric from 1973 to 1983, he was technical director of the program for the
development of the AN/SWQR-19 Tactical Towed Array Sonar System, which was one of the Navy’s primary sensors for the detection, localization, and tracking of submarines. After moving to the Washington area, Mr. Jacobi continued to support programs of the Navy Surface Ship ASW Program Office for the development of integrated ASW combat systems until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Jacobi is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dolores Godfrey Jacobi, son Thomas F. Jacobi and his wife Karen (Stolinski) two grandsons, Thomas and John Jacobi, all of Roseville, Ca.; and daughter Mary Ellen Jacobi of Sterling, Va.; a sister Dolly Kadlec of Columbia, Mo., and brother Jack Jacobi of St. Louis, Mo.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2006, assembling at the administration building by 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Jacobi’s memory to John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center for pancreatic cancer research at 401 North Broadway, Weinberg Bldg 2242 Baltimore, Md. 21231 or to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oak Crest Manor Dr. Leesburg, Va. 20176.
