James Bailey's Obituary
J. Scott Bailey, 55, of Ashburn, passed December 9, 2007 at Georgetown University Hospital with his wife, Jenny, by his side. Scott was born October 4, 1952 in Portland, OR to Scott & Katy Bailey. He is survived by his wife Jenny, sons Sean & Eric, daughter Tina of Pearland, TX; brother Bob of Raleigh, NC; sisters Chris of Irmo, SC, Beth of Fairfax, VA, and Sue of Freeland, MD; his father Col. Scott Bailey, USMC Ret. of Springfield, VA; grandsons Steve Jr., Heath, Hunter & Kale of Pearland, TX. Scott was predeceased by his mother, Katy.
Scott grew up in true military brat fashion moving post to post, his family finally settling in Arlington, VA. Scott was one of the last 100 draftees into the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a tank and artillery mechanic. His military training served him well after leaving the service as he worked for many years as an automotive and small engine mechanic. At 39, Scott decided to enter college convinced he would flunk out in the first semester. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Virginia Community College. In 1997, he graduated with Honors from George Mason University with a degree in Management Information Systems. Scott worked 10 years for Nortel Government Solutions (formerly Performance Engineering Corporation).
Through his 23 year friendship with Bill W. and Dr. Bob, Scott developed deep relationships that supported him in life and through his 4 year battle with lung cancer. Scott’s passions in life were his children, his family, his faith and his friends. He found his little piece of Heaven on Earth with his Lake Anna property which he shared with anyone and everyone he could talk into coming down.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday evening, December 12th from 7-9 pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapels, Leesburg VA. Services will be held Thursday, December 13th @ 1:00 pm at Crossroads United Methodist Church, Ashburn VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Lombardi Cancer Center, c/o Dr. Shakun Malik, Lung Cancer Research.
