James Flynn Carter's Obituary
James Flynn Carter of Ashburn, VA passed on Sunday June 7th, 2020 at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, VA.
from severe Aortic Stenosis. Jim was 89. Born June 29, 1930 in San Angelo, Texas he was the son of Martin William Carter and Sarah Elizabeth (Clampitt) Carter. James was preceded in death by his wife Ginger Lorane (Moore) Carter. He is survived by his children Nicky Joe and Carol Carter, Michael Vance and Diana Carter, Lee Ann and Howard Jones and James Flynn Carter Jr. as well as 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy July 7, 1948 a year after graduating from high school and received an honorable discharge in March 1950. Jim worked construction until the onset of the Korean War and reenlisted in the Navy January 1951. Jim was with the Seabee's stationed in Japan during the war and received a second honorable discharge October 1954 as a Surveyor Second Class.
After the war, Jim worked as a surveyor before entering college at San Angelo College. After a year he transferred to Arlington State College before moving to California where he finished his Associates Degree at Santa Monica City College and then attended UCLA. In 1961 Jim left UCLA in good standing to provide for his growing family. After college Jim entered the computer industry and worked for SOC, Planning Research Corporation, Zimmerman Associates and was last employed by AnviCom.
Jim retired in 2002 after over 40 years in the computer industry. Jim enjoyed fishing, racquetball, golfing, gardening and cooking.
Interment will be on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
