James "Jim" Lawrence Dawe's Obituary
James “Jim” Dawe, born on January 17, 1949 in Herrin, IL to Clifford James and Emma Nadine Dawe (Everard). He passed away on Nov 7, 2024 in Aldie, VA peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted husband to Marsha Dawe, a proud father to Marlys Morales (Dawe), and cherished grandfather to his two granddaughters, Eva and Camila, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and country. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob Everard, and his little sister, Marion Ruth Dawe-Hawman, and his best friend, Dennis Lawhead. He is survived by several family members; his sisters, Judith Drake and Brenda Kissinger and his brother, Thomas Dawe. In addition to his immediate family, he has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members across Southern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
Jim proudly served 22 years in the U.S. Army’s Air Defense Artillery, retiring as a First Sergeant in 1990. His retirement marked the start of countless adventures in the great outdoors, where he found joy in turkey and deer hunting, winning catfish contests with his bait shop buddies, and foraging for ginseng and mushrooms. His skill and determination were unmatched—whether building, fixing, or overcoming life's many challenges. Those who knew Jim admired his resilience, strength, and spirit.
Despite health challenges in his later years, James continued doing what he loved for as long as he could, hunting alongside friends and sharing his knowledge of the outdoors. His memory and legacy will be cherished by his family and friends forever.
In memory of Jim, the family requests donations be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America to honor his legacy and help aid other Veterans living with spinal cord injuries. Please note “James Dawe memorial” with your donation."
A burial and memorial service will be held later, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. The date and will be shared with family and friends once arrangements are finalized.
