James Morger Dodson's Obituary
Paeonian Springs, VA - James Morger Dodson, 81, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at his Virginia home from an aggressive form of lung cancer.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Carleen; his sons Jeff and Jon; daughter-in-law Nancy; granddaughter Jamie, great granddaughter Danielle; brothers Jon Dodson of Boise, Idaho and Joe Dodson of Loveland Colorado; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Clem and Mable Dodson (Morger), he was the oldest of four children. He resided in Golden Valley and Waconia, Minnesota most of his adult life.
After completing high school in Fort Collins, he attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in accounting. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserves through the ROTC program. Immediately after graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Carleen, and moved to Fallon, NV for two years with the U.S. Navy. From Fallon, Jim took an accounting job with FMC Corporation and moved to San Jose, CA. His career progressed and in 1964 he left FMC for a job with Old Republic Title in Minneapolis, MN. He stayed with Old Republic Title, advancing in positions and responsibilities, until his retirement in 1999 as Vice President.
An avid sports enthusiast and supporter of the community, he served on the Golden Valley school board and was instrumental in establishing the school’s ice hockey program In retirement, Jim and Carleen lived in Waconia, MN, southwest of Minneapolis. He was very active in his church and in civic activities, such as Meals on Wheels, and as a volunteer at the local library. He presided over his local homeowner’s association for a number of years.
Jim had a passion for history and continuous learning. He studied the evolution of Christianity and the role it played in world history, often leading seminars for his local church. He was a loving and caring man who gave more to others than he ever took for himself.
Funeral services will be held this Friday morning, November 6th. It will take place at 11.00am at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA. Internment will immediately follow the service at Union Cemetery, 323 N. King St. Leesburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by his son Jeff, in Jim's name, and then provided to the Waconia Library."
