James Thomas Franklin's Obituary
JAMES THOMAS FRANKLIN (“Tom”), 89, of Lansdowne, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026.
Tom was born on December 12, 1936, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Ellsworth Franklin and Ruth Butler Franklin. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and a member of the Corps of Cadets, where he served in the prestigious Persian Rifles drill unit of Company H (“Highty-Tighties”), earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to build a successful and fulfilling career in the electrical power industry, serving as an Executive Vice President.
Tom had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Over the years, he found joy in golfing, caring for his fishponds, and the companionship of his beloved bulldog, Penny. He was especially proud to be a lifetime honorary member of Congressional Country Club, a distinction that reflected both his love of the game and a lifelong commitment to excellence.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to his work, and the quiet way he cared for those around him.
Above all, Tom was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Peyton Franklin (“Pat”), with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family. He also leaves behind his two daughters, Susan Franklin Pelkey and Patricia Franklin Olsen; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lansdowne Woods, 19375 Magnolia Grove Square, Leesburg, VA, with a reception to follow.
He will be laid to rest during a private family burial at at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1902 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Tom.
