James C. Garrison's Obituary
James Clifford Garrison
November 4, 1932 - December 22, 2018
James (Jim) Garrison passed away on Saturday December 22, 2018 at Inova Fairfax Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Jim was 86.
Jim was born on November 4, 1932 in Hamilton, Ohio to Jessie and James Charles Garrison. After graduating high school he joined the US Navy to serve his country. He proudly served from 1953 to 1972. During an active-duty assignment to Argentia, Newfoundland he met his wife Stella Marie Pumphrey and they married September 3, 1956.
Throughout his naval career he had several duty stations including: Argentia, Newfoundland, Norfolk, Virginia, and London, England, they settled in Vienna, Virginia in 1973. Over 14 years, the couple welcomed four children (Sherri, Jimmy, Michele, and Tami) into their home; after retirement they settled in Ashburn, Virginia.
Jim adored his wife Stella; their family was built on love and admiration, a catalyst which formed an unbreakable bond until she passed away after 58 loving years of marriage. He was truly devoted, not only to this country, but his wife and children. Jim had many hobbies and liked to “fix” anything. After the passing of Stella, he enjoyed going to the casinos and traveling with his new gambling buddy Sherri or working in the yard with his neighbor and friend Wilson. He was loving man filled with care and compassion. He taught his children by silent example. Jim was always known as the “nicest, sweetest, caring man”. He ended every phone call with “I love you” and every goodbye with a big hug and kiss. He was a God fearing man that believed in the power of prayer. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn.
Jim is survived by his children Sharon Ann Hogue, James Brady Garrison (Cheryl Ann Garrison), Michele Lynn Garrison, and Tami Garrison Luddy (John F. Luddy, II), all from Northern Virginia; 10 grandchildren, Adam Christopher Hogue (Ros Lee), L. Elizabeth Hogue Krippner, Nadia Marie Zagrodniczek, Victoria Rae Garrison, Mitchell Garrison Baki, James Christopher Garrison, Andrew Michael Garrison, Garrison Ray Smith, Natalie Marie Baki, and Eliza Hope Luddy; two great-grandchildren Conley James Krippner and Estelle Marie Krippner and by his loving sister Lois Gregory of Hilton Head, SC. He is preceded by his wife Stella Garrison, his parents, James Charles Garrison and Jessie Curry Garrison, and his brother Sandford Garrison.
