In Loving Memory of James W. Tait
(October 17, 1932 – September 27, 2025)
Jim passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, after living courageously with Parkinson’s Dementia for many years. He was 92.
Born in Hudson, NY on October 17, 1932, Jim was a gift to his mother on her 30th birthday. He grew up in Fairfax, VA, the son of a farm manager, John Raymond Tait (deceased), and his Irish Catholic wife, Elizabeth Margaret Tait (née Blake, deceased).
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John Raymond Tait Jr. and Martin Albert Tait; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandra Jean Tait (née Shaffer), his best friend and true love, whom he lost on March 25, 2016. He is survived by his beloved sister, Rosemary Elizabeth Thietje.
He is also survived by his five children: James Tait II (Lori) of Ashburn, VA; Terri McGinnis (Jim) of Oak Hill, VA; Michael Tait (Lisa, deceased) of Montclair, VA; Susan Yantis (Geri) of Clifton, VA; and Jennifer Mayhew (William) of Rustburg, VA. Jim was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jim and Sandy traveled the world together with family and friends creating lasting memories wherever they went. He enjoyed a long life filled with love, laughter, and gratitude. Known for his warm smile and kind spirit, Jim never met a stranger and will remain in our hearts forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21370 St. Theresa Ln, Ashburn, VA. Following the Mass a private interment will take place at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr. NE, Leesburg, VA in the columbarium garden behind the Parish Center.
