Jane Bradfield Davison's Obituary
Jane Bradfield Davison passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, at the age of 89 years. She was born and raised in Leesburg, Virginia, the daughter of Edward Neville Bradfield, who was Vice President of the Peoples National Bank and a past mayor of Leesburg (1934-1937; 1942-1947), and Ruth Crim Bradfield, who was a schoolteacher in Loudoun County for many years. Jane graduated from Mary Washington College and worked as a medical technologist in Washington D.C. before marrying John (Jack) W. Davison, Jr. in 1963. They spent their first year of marriage in Saigon, Vietnam, where Lieutenant Davison (then a naval officer) served as a translator. Jane was one of the first patients to receive vision-saving laser surgery for ocular histoplasmosis syndrome in the late 1960s at Johns Hopkins University. She was an avid volunteer who was very active in the St. James Episcopal Church Altar Guild, the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Virginia, the American Red Cross, the Union Cemetery Board, and several other organizations. She belonged to the Loudoun Preservation Society where she was instrumental in the preservation of Carlheim Manor (i.e., the Paxton Home). Jane was also an active member of the Ladies Board of INOVA Loudoun Hospital and was a familiar presence overseeing the housewares section of their annual Hospital Rummage Sale. Jane shared a love of music and theater with her husband, playing piano in her home her entire life and supporting and attending Jack’s many community theater productions in the Loudoun area. They also enjoyed taking annual trips together to Jack’s professional conventions and visiting extended family at a farmhouse retreat on the coast of “Down East” Maine. The home that Jane & Jack built north of Leesburg in the 1970s was a gathering place for family and friends over many years for holidays, birthdays, reunions and special occasions, and Jane was the ultimate hostess. Those who knew her well will miss her gentle presence, sense of humor, quick wit and quips, homespun wisdom passed down through generations, and of course her delicious cooking! Jane is preceded in death by her parents; husband John W. Davison, Jr. of Leesburg, Virginia; younger sister Ellen Bradfield DeCourcy formerly of Waterford, Virginia; younger brother Edward Neville Bradfield, Jr. of Rosamond, California; and daughter Kathryn Ann Davison Van Noppen of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Camille Davison Longcrow of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and sons John Walter Davison III (Amy) of Vienna, Virginia, and Edward Bradfield Davison (Jennifer) of Port Orange, Florida, as well as ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Virginia, on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ladies Board of Inova Loudoun Hospital Lights of Love (www.ladiesboard.org/lights-of-love-donation) or the Loudoun Preservation Society (www.preserveloudoun.org/donate).
