Janet "Jan" Buckner Carnes, Ph.D's Obituary
OBITUARY INFORMATION
Janet (Jan) Buckner Carnes, Ph.D., 49, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 13th 2013. Dr. Carnes was born September 4th 1963 in Spartanburg, SC. She received her undergraduate degree from The College of William & Mary in 1985 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree and Doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University. Jan built a tremendous community of love and friendship in Glen Allen, VA from 1995 until 2001 and then again after moving to Woodlea Manor of Leesburg, VA. She welcomed new neighbors with open arms (and brownies) and kept coming back to nourish and feed those relationships. She sacrificed time and time again to help her family and never asked for anything in return. While in Glen Allen Jan served as a Human Factors Psychologist within VCU’s Department of Justice and Risk Administration and as a member of the State of Virginia’s Crash Analysis Team. She then decided to stay home and raise our two beautiful children. Jan was a very loving and caring woman who enjoyed helping others. Jan was so creative with beautiful cakes, interior decorating, and fabulous food, many, many children and adults called her the Martha Stewart of Woodlea. She served as President and now Vice President of the Woodlea Manor HOA and Chairperson for the Arcola United Methodist Church Preschool.
Dr. Carnes is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years: Charles “Chuck” Carnes, of Leesburg; two children: Andrew Daniel Carnes and Katherine “Katie” Elizabeth Carnes; her parents: Daniel James and Macie Smith Buckner of Doswell, VA; a sister: Jennifer Buckner Colestock of Glen Allen, VA, numerous nieces, nephews, a godson and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 20th 2013 at the Arcola United Methodist Church 24757 Evergreen Mill Road, Arcola, VA 20166 with Pastor Chris Riedel officiating. The Family will receive friends and relatives at the church starting at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arcola United Methodist Church, Loudoun Interfaith Relief or the charity of your choice.
