Janice Demer's Obituary
JANICE DEMER, 93, passed away on Thursday, February 11th, 2010 in Leesburg, Virginia. Janice was born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts the daughter of James and Charlotte Marr. She graduated from Lasell College and began a career as an occupational therapist. In 1941, she enlisted as a WAVE in the Naval Reserve and attained the rank of Lt. JG. Her Naval service continued through 1945 where she served as a Supply Corp officer. During her service she met her husband Dr. Walter J. Demer, a Naval Dental Officer. They had a long and happy marriage traveling throughout the country and the world as they shared their lives and Walter’s career as a Naval Dental Officer. She also spent many happy summers at their favorite retreat, their cottage at Elk Lake, PA. Her parents, her husband and one daughter Jane Demer Berglund predeceased her. One son James Demer and a daughter Judith Demer Vipond survive her. She was also the proud grandmother to Joelle Berglund Corcoran, Jon Berglund and Cary Vipond, James Vipond and a loving great grandmother to Emily and Zachary Corcoran and Kellen Vipond.
A Mass will be held at 10:30 am on March 23rd, 2010 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21370 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA. Interment with military honors will follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at 1pm.
