Jared Patrick Dodson's Obituary
Jared Patrick Dodson, age 25, passed away from injuries resulting from a work-related accident at Dulles International Airport on Friday morning, January 27, 2012. Jared was born on October 2, 1986, in Bulnes, Chile and was a loving son, caring brother, adoring uncle and proud member of the Southwest Airlines family.
To meet Jared once was enough to love and to respect him. His smile will forever be with all of us. Even from a young age Jared had a true love of life, finding interests and making hobbies in outdoors events of all kinds, riding and driving anything with wheels, working with animals and taking to the ice as a passionate hockey player. If it involved the great outdoors, Jared was there. His love of family, dogs, bicycling and ice hockey kept him
actively engaged as he lived each day to the fullest.
Jared enjoyed outdoor events including numerous Cub Scouts activities and kicking the ball around as a youth soccer player. However, life on the ice was Jared’s dream. Learning to ice skate at the age of four with the South Dayton Youth Hockey program in Dayton, OH, Jared went on to make hockey a lifelong endeavor. A member on several organizational teams, Jared played with the Northern Virginia Ice Dogs in Mount Vernon, Virginia, and was one of the founding youth players of the Prince William Hockey Club also in Virginia. He went on to join the Golden Spike Youth Hockey program in Ogden, Utah, and later realized a life-long dream, as he was selected to skate in performances during the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Jared went on to become an extraordinary hockey player with the Nashua Panthers in Nashua, New Hampshire. While there, he also skated for his high school team, the Sabers of Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire. Culminating his performance as team captain, Jared was recognized his senior year as a New Hampshire all-state goalie. Jared graduated from Souhegan High in 2005 and began employment with Grella and Son Irrigation and United Parcel Service in Manchester, New Hampshire. It was not until a year later; however, that Jared found his calling by joining the Southwest Airlines family supporting the Manchester New Hampshire airport.
As an energetic, fun-filled employee, Jared was always proud to work and inform others of his membership with the Southwest Family. Whenever asked if he liked his job, Jared proudly and emphatically answered “Yes, I Luv it.” Jared later transferred with Southwest Airlines to the Dulles International Airport team in northern Virginia. While there, he continued to live life to the fullest, and diligently work ramp operations. During his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, helping with the family horse farm, cooking the best food around on the BBQ, riding ATVs, driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, and spoiling his beloved Pitbull Terrier, Kamora.
Jared leaves to cherish his memory, his mom Nancy; dad Jeffrey Carl (“JC”); sister and best friend, Jamie; and devoted niece Danielle, of Paeonian Springs, Virginia. He is also survived by his grandparents: Jim and Carleen Dodson of Waconia, Minnesota; Edna Darling of American Falls, Idaho; and Nile Darling of Boise Idaho. Also surviving Jared are his uncle, Jon Dodson of Livingston, Montana; his aunt, Cheryl Darling of Boise, Idaho; and cousins Tara Williamson and Tonya Hardy.
