Jean S. Wilkins' Obituary
Jean S. Wilkins, known to her grandchildren as "Dada", died at age 84 on June 1, 2013. She was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, and lived in Mass and NY before moving to Springfield VA in 1968, where she spent most of her years as a homemaker. As an only child herself, she left a considerable family legacy including six accomplished adult children, fifteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Despite her lack of formal education, she was extremely well read and she held her family to high intellectual standards, encouraging a life of success starting with her honored wall of family high school senior pictures. As a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she attended countless swim meets, dance recitals, band concerts, plays, graduation ceremonies, and other family events, occasionally "double booking" herself and her beloved husband in order to avoid missing any of these occasions. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Henry Wilkins, her sons Henry Wilkins, Jr. (Susan) John Wilkins (Lisa), and daughters Melanie (Tim), Marianne (Kerry), Patricia (Alan), Jeanne (Vance), and 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 P.M. at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 21371 St Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147 Thursday June 6, 2013, following a private family viewing. Burial will take place on June 8, 2013 at River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at or to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia .
