Jeanette Fleming's Obituary
Fleming, Jeanette Smith, age 90, on January 25, 2006 in Strasburg, VA, life long resident of Lovettsville, VA. She was born on July 18, 1915 to the late Thomas Earl Smith and Annie Martin, beloved wife of the late John R. Fleming, of whom she was married to for 48 years. She is survived by three children, Margaret A. Yowell of Burke, VA, and Richard L. Fleming of Harpers Ferry, WV, Daniel W. Staley of Brunswick, MD; one brother, Delmar Smith of Boonsboro, MD; one sister, Annalee Layton of Mt. Airy, MD; three grandchildren, Amy Yowell of California and Travis and Curtis Fleming, both of Watervlite, MI. She graduated in 1936 from Harrisonburg State Teachers College, which later became James Madison University. Mrs. Fleming was a teacher at Sunny Ridge, the one room grade school between Round Hill and Hillsboro, from 1936-1937, from 1937 until 1940 she taught at Sterling Grade School, 1941-1942 at Waterford Elementary, and Lovettsville Elementary from 1943 until 1946. She has been an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church since the 1940’s, a Sunday school teacher, founder of the Youth Fellowship and member of the U.M. Women’s Club. She was an avid writer, writing poetry and skits for church plays. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, January 28, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Loudoun Funeral Chapels / Browns, 34 E. Broad Way, Lovettsville, VA. A Funeral Service will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 11783 Mountain Rd. Lovettsville, VA 20180, where Pastor Lee Crosby and Pastor Chris Suerdieck will co-officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lovettsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 123, Lovettsville, VA 20180.
