Jerry Martin Hieb's Obituary
JERRY MARTIN HIEB, 67, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Falls Church, Virginia. Mr. Hieb was a survivor of HIV for over twenty years and participant of numerous HIV trials over the years that are instrumental today in treating those with HIV. He was a resident of the Washington D.C. area since the 1960’s and was presently living in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Hieb was born March 25, 1941 in Lockland, Ohio to the late Clem and Dovie Ann Pruitt Hieb. His eldest brother, Don Hieb and his youngest, Tommy Hieb also predeceased him. Mr. Hieb had been an instrumental activist in both civil and gay rights. He marched in one of the first gay rights marches in Washington, DC. Mr. Hieb was a color specialist and stylist for over 20 years with Nahid’s Salon in Crystal City, Virginia. He had previously worked with Elizabeth Arden for many years. Mr. Hieb was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community in Alexandria, Virginia.
Mr. Hieb is survived by his life partner: Mark Linek of Sterling, VA; three siblings: Joy Branson of Burlington, NC, Bobby and wife Gaye Hieb of Rocky Point, NC, Dianne Yankelevitz of Winter Park, FL and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 1427 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia. Interment will be in North Carolina.
