Jo Anne Bell Bodmer's Obituary
Jo Anne Bell Bodmer, 91 of Leesburg, Virginia passed on to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Born March 24, 1925 in Gate City, Virginia the youngest daughter of the late Samuel Claude Bell and the late Monnie Estelle Pierson Bell. Jo Anne was married to the love of her life, the late G.P. “Bunky” Bodmer, on November 12, 1947, for 67 years.
Jo Anne and “Bunky” owned and operated the Nancy’s Shop in Leesburg in the mid 1960’s. Jo Anne later opened the first Voter Registrar’s Office in Loudoun County in March of 1971, and was the Voter Registrar until her retirement in 1991.
She was preceded in death by husband Bunky, March 19, 2015. To cherish her memory Jo Anne leaves her family including sons; Gary L. Bodmer of Winchester, VA; Samuel E. “Buz” Bodmer and wife, Dlana, of Lebanon, VA; daughter Linda Carol Bodmer Gore and husband, Tyler, of Middleburg, VA. and grandchildren; Daniel J. Bodmer, MD, PhD his wife, Beatriz Cruz, MD; William E. Bodmer; Cameron T. Gore; Olivia A. Gore; and Thomas G. “Tommy” Bodmer.
Jo Anne was a life member of the former Calvary Baptist Church, Ashburn, VA where she was ordained a deaconess in 1997. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Loudoun Business and Professional Association, and the Loudoun Chapter of the American Heart Association. Jo Anne enjoyed flowers and gardening, traveling with “Bunky,” and was a wonderful southern cook who always took great care of her family and friends in the community.
The Family will receive family and friends at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Friday December 30, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a celebration of life graveside service at 11 AM at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
