Joan Lorraine McCusker Hamilton's Obituary
Joan Lorraine McCusker Hamilton, age 88 of Annandale and Leesburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023.
Joan was born on September 18, 1934, in Cambridge Massachusetts to the late William Henry and Catherine Teresa Morgan McCusker. She was the youngest of their 9 children.
Joan had a passion for travel and adventure. She wanted to be a flight attendant, but knew the requirements were a minimum of two years of customer service employment. After graduating from high school she worked for two years at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. She then joined United Airlines where she spent over 30 years travelling the world. In 1980 Joan met the love of her life, David Hamilton, a retired Naval officer who shared her fondness for travel. They were married for 14 happy years until his death in 1995.
Joan is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who knew, and benefited from, her love, support, and sense of fun. She will be greatly missed.
A private burial will occur later. Memorial contributions may be made to any animal rescue group, as Joan loved all creatures; especially, the Miniature Schnauzer Dogs and Siamese Cats she and David shared.
