JOAN LORETTA RAY's Obituary
JOAN LORETTA RAY, 88, years young, of Bayside, Queens, New York passed on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehab Center. in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born in New York City, at New York Infirmary Women's Hospital, Tuesday, May 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late HAROLD DUNPHY and the late CATHERINE CUNOTTO DUNPHY. She was married in 1960 to her lifelong love, William Francis Ray, Jr. (Buddy) who passed in 2006, and mother of DIANE PATRICA RAY BROWN, born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1969 who predeceased her in 2020. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Bayside Queens, where she raised her family for 20 years.
She graduatued from St. Peters Girls High School on Staten Island, New York. Joan worked as a secretary and stenographer for American Express and other financial services companies during her career. She cherished her many friends and neighbors who she had lifleong relationships from Bayside. She and Buddy moved to New Jersey upon retirement, and many winters found them traveling to Florida, with their fellow "snowbirds."
She leaves her family to cherish her memory including her brother, Bobby Dunphy of Whiting , New Jersey, son in law Leonard H. Brown, III of Middleburg, VA; three grandchildren, Lee Brown, IV, Catherine Ray Brown, and Caroline Noelle Brown.
A special thank you goes to the nurses and care givers at Heritage Hall of Leesburg, for their devoted care and service to Joan during her stay there from April of 2020.
She is also survived by a niece and two nephews, as well as other cousins, family, and friends.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Church of Saint Teresa located at 50-20 45th Street Woodside, New York 11377, with Rev. Richard Conlon officiating.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd, Woodside, NY 11377.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joan's memory to INOVA SCHAR CANCER GREATEST NEED with a GIFT IN MEMORY OF DIANE R. BROWN NURSING FUND .....
